Catherine

Catherine was born and raised in the Kenema District in the Eastern part of Sierra Leone. When she was six years old, her father died on a peace mission and in 2014, her mother became ill with Ebola and passed away. At 13 years old, Catherine became an orphan.

After her mother’s passing, Catherine went to live with her older sister who is only two years older than Catherine and had children of her own. The family was struggling to survive but through strength and resourcefulness, the two sisters took fate into their own hands and became entrepreneurs, working as petty traders.

Once the devastation of the Ebola outbreak came to an end, schools in Sierra Leone began to reopen and Catherine was eager to continue her education. When Pathway Academy began accepting students in January 2016, Catherine was thrilled to attend. As the only school nearby, Pathway Academy allowed Catherine to attend school and stay close to her sister, the only family she has left.

Since joining the school, Catherine has been an exceptional student. She has become an excellent public speaker and passionate debate participant. Through debate, she is empowered to share her knowledge and challenge the ideas of others. Catherine aims to use her voice to protect the rights of citizens as the future Attorney General and Minister of Justice of Sierra Leone.
